The Land of Elephants & Ancient Baobabs

Tarangire National Park is famous for its impressive elephant populations, magnificent baobab trees and diverse wildlife. The Tarangire River provides an important source of water, particularly during the dry season when wildlife gathers around permanent and seasonal water sources. The park's distinctive scenery of giant baobabs, acacia woodland, open plains and wetlands makes it one of the most visually impressive destinations on Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit.

The Baobab Landscape The park's giant baobab trees create some of the most recognizable scenery in northern Tanzania. Some of the park's baobabs are estimated to be centuries old, with enormous trunks and distinctive silhouettes. The combination of: Elephants + Baobabs + Golden Savannah + Blue African Sky makes Tarangire particularly attractive to photographers.

Best Time to Visit June–October: The classic dry-season period and particularly strong for wildlife concentration. November–February: Green scenery, young animals and good birdwatching. March–May: Wet-season conditions and lush vegetation; some roads may become more challenging. Tarangire was gazetted as a national park in 1970. Awards & Recognition TANAPA currently lists Tarangire as a 2025 World Travel Awards winner for Africa's Leading Elephant Paradise National Park and records previous nominations for Tanzania's Leading National Park.
